Omet’s latest concept allows converters to produce two-layer laminated items by joining together different films in a single structure.
One production technique that is enjoying a rapid growth in demand for those who work in the converting industry is inline lamination on the press. The process joins different plastic films into a single structure.
Solvent-based adhesives are used for this because they offer good adhesion and are easy to work with, allowing several types of films to be used to create a large variety of laminated products.
Recently, Omet has tested a VaryFlex-F1 press for inline film laminating and the initial results from the demos have been very positive.
The unit, situated before rewinding, is prearranged for two different types of processing to join both thermo sensitive and thermo stable materials:
- lamination with secondary materials like PET and BOPP, which are more stable to heat, is achieved by applying glue to the secondary material, on a modified Flexy unit
- lamination with a secondary thermo sensitive material, like HDPE, is achieved by applying glue to the primary material, on a Rotogravure unit.
The VaryFlex press is available for demonstration to all converters who would like to evaluate what it could achieve for their business.
